It most certainly is Riptide. I agree with your assesment of their freshwater tanks. All lot of that had to do with when they were forced to let their freshwater specialist, Chris, go due to money reasons. Mike, the manager and SW specialist is a very smart dude, but SW is his specialty. Not to say he doesn't know his FW, but when you're responsible for both AND also the day-to-day running of the store you get stretched thin, and business suffers. Such a bummer. I just went back there and got a green severum, a blue acara, 10 Buenos Aires Tetras and a ton of food for $30.

Yeah, that kid is good with the SW. He told me he just is not real familiar with FW... just not his thang! Hey, glad you got the Blue Acara... I kept wanting those, but nowhere to put them. they are "oldies but goodies"... one of the first fish I ever kept as a kid. Pick up the rest of them and get yourself a pair!!
Hey, what about the little Uaru!! You can pick the up for $5 I bet!! Too bad the other died. ALso, the Syn. decorus is a steal for $10 !! I think it mislabelled actually... looks more like a Flaviatus (spelling??). Man, since you are a cichlid guy, you could just cleanup in that place. I like their Texas also and those 2 little pikes in the bottom tank... bet you could get both for $7 for the pair!!

Matter of fact I got a Texas from there on Monday. I'm keeping a close eye on the Uaru, he seems to be having a rough time dealing with the shock. This is my first Roo, so I'm being extra cautious with him. He's such a tiny little guy. I have him in my 29 with some clown loaches, the yoyo loaches I got today and the green severum I got today.
There's nothing worse than when you find a good LFS and they go under, it's happened to me about 5 times now and I've only just found another one I'm happy with!

The one thing we all have to take into account is the fact that running a LFS is a small business with a huge overhead. Just think running X number of tanks (water changes, heaters and lights...etc) not to mention the price of buying stock.... It's very hard to stay in the black with that many expenses
I'm a noisy one when this comes up a real hot button issue for me I hate all large mega chains whether its fish or a grocery store who the f$%k are they to force people out of bussiness with lower prices till they win and then jack the prices thru the roof cant stand it watched a few mom and pops fish stores close around me its forced me to go online for my equipment i wont buy something just because thats what they carry at the time ..
That's really unfortunate, I would dive from the roof headfirst if my lfs went under. I hate to say it, but that is the way this country works. It's the best system in the world, but it has it's flaws. The dollar vote is the most important thing. More and more people are not willing to pay money for excellent service. They would rather buy from a moron for a buck cheaper. I will pay a premium for excellent service and knowledge but most won't.
AMEN! Free enterprise is one thing. Predatory business practices are a whole different ball o' wax. And the sad thing is the people who own the Mega Chains don't give a rats arse about the hobby. You know, the reason they are IN BUSINESS IN THE FIRST PLACE! I'm going to keep buying fish and other products from the LFS till the day they lock the doors for good. Then I'll throw my allegiance behind the next LFS, and the whole cycle starts again. I love this hobby. I honestly do. It's just hard to watch informed store owners lose out to someone playing with a bigger stack of chips.....fishnutham said:
