supporting a 500 gallon acrylic tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've seen foam used on both glass and acrylic. Just to be safe I'm going to use it. I would much rather use it and not need it than not use it and have a tank failure. That's way too much water to be leaking into my house.

you may want to tent that windo prolonged sunlight no good for acrylic.
but killer setup anywho.

I would tint it but it's a rental house  and yes my landlord know about all my tanks she was looking at it just the other day. I just need to close the blinds then it's all good.

Thanks for the compliments. :headbang2 I can't wait to get it finished up, it's going to be a lake Tanganyika tank only.

another reason foam is used with glass is if you have a solid top and the glass touches the wood, it could, not likely but could cause a crack. that tank looks sweet! is the black piece being used as part of the filter??

YES! Finally someones doing a huge african setup. I think this will be awesome. Not just the standard pred/cichlid setup's.

Are you going to enclose the stand? It looks kinda tacky.

sweeTang21: That black peice is the overflow which plumbs directly down into the Sump. These are good for building around. IE Structal decor.

What are the dimensions of that tank, looks kind of small for 500 gallons

Good job on building the stand! Looks great!

As for the question, I also, would go w/ the plywood top over the frame stand... Along with the foam padding sheet underneath. Having so, is only going to help if anything! All well worth the "extra cash" spent on it.

Please keep us posted with your further progress, and pics as well. :)

Love the "bullet" shape looks of the tank ends. :) What are the actual dimensions of your 500, btw?
