My wife is pretty supportive. I don't generally ask when I want to get something. But I have 2 money sources. My regular job and my business. The aquarium money comes out of the business money.
However she is starting to get nervous about our vacation. We haven't taken one is several years, do to my daughters other hobby. Showing cutting horses. We are always traveling doing that. So I figure that as my vacation. But my wife wants time on the beach. With the renewed interest in fish, some beach time in Florida sounds good.
I have assured her I will come up with the money for the vacation. No new filters til we get back.

I lucked out, My husband actually renovated the livingroom so that our 150 could fit! (we had a fireplace in the livingroom that had to go!) He always loved fish keeping but never really got into monsterfish until he met me and now he's hooked! I bought the 150 used and he renovated the stand to make it more secure. He rigged up some tube thingy on the fluidized bed filter so the pump and hose will not stick out like some ugly mess! He hand made the cross braces on the aquarium so the versa tops can fit. And some of the fishies in the aquarium belong to him!
He never made it an issue if I spent a lot of money on fish, as I never made an issue if he wanted to spent a lot of money on whatever he wanted. We have two boys, our oldest is getting into fish keeping himself, the younger is into hermit crabs and bettas but he helps feed the fish!

I hear ya on that one, my 14 year old plays hockey, my 7 year old plays baseball, so travelling is abundant, then we have our tanks to take care of. Vacation sometimes feels like its impossible! But we work it out! I'm sure you'll get that well deserved florida vacation!
