Alright guys, I took care of it this morning. ;)
Stuck him in the freezer, and just tossed him out now. Sucks, but you gotta do what ya gotta do, lol. I'll remember that first shot though; great looking fish.

The fact that you have this fish is not what worries the tree huggers, its if it gets loose and finds another one to breed with, but i think its a little late to worry about that cat being out of the bag. And simply killing a few here and there as they are caught is not gonna get it.
;)

I think a important thing we ofter forget is that there are reasons for the laws on owning invasives, and reasons for not posting that you are breaking the law online.

Native, you are absolutely correct if in fact all pet fish owners were responsible and didnt put fish into the wild that dont belong there.....but the truth is fishkeepers just like all pet owners have responsible fishkeepers and then there are the idiots who dont care; even though the round goby "cat is out of the bag " in the great lakes and a few tributaries theres still hope for other lakes and streams in illinois and Ohio, and that is who the federal goverment is trying to protect. They are trying to stop the spread of VHS and they are also trying to protect a number of sculpin, darters and madtoms who would be directly affected by this aggressive invasive. I am trying to educate new fish owners to these laws to protect themselves and their community.

The DNR comes and checks my tanks in my house a lot  cmon guys, get a grip. This is an invasive troublemaker, without a doubt, but trust me if i find one its goin in a tank, til it dies. Why try to put the fear of God in new fishkeepers. Just know what youve got and nail your fishroom door closed. :naughty:

"The DNR" absolutely does patrol forums and will bust people who advertise that they are doing something prohibited. The OP in this case did the wise thing- he corrected the infraction once it was pointed out to him. Even if you think the law is silly- and it sometimes is- you can still get yourself in trouble.

Believe it or not, there are some members did get serious fines from someone who is visit on this forum.

I greatly discourage all other members from keeping illegal species, especially ones that are invasive; therefore the OP did the right thing by killing the goby. Laws are laws, and we all must follow them. It seems pretty pointless to argue that the DNR isn't going to fine you if they catch you on here. Now we wouldn't want anyone to get fined for owning one, now would we?
