I have never heard of this fish but if it is dangerous to other species is it safe to leave it in the tank?

This species of fish has taken over the niche of some small native fish in the Great Lakes and is a major predator of the eggs of native fish.

This fish helps to control the invasive zebra mussels (but not reduce the population), but their consumption of these mussels has led to higher PCB levels higher up in the food chain on account of the mussels being filter feeders. These gobies also account for a major part of the diet of the Lake Erie watersnake (endangered), and the watersnake populations are on the rise.

The negative effects of this fish species presence in the Great lakes greatly outweigh the positive effects.

Good post sometimes people arent too concerned about the damage the aggressive round goby does to our populations of Darters, Sculpins, and Madtoms.....but you start talking about the fact they will have less Smallmouth bass to catch because of egg predation , or the fact they wont be able to eat the walleye they catch because of pcb levels in the fish......and then you hear them get upset.

oh! i like them!

this outright banning crap is retarded. the damage is done, so why don't they, at the very least, issue permits to people and use the permit money to help fight the "problem"? typical government shenanigans. :swear::wall::duh::nono::bs::thumbsdow:shakehead

i'm glad you think it's a great idea too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you see, people can still catch, keep, buy or sell and release these invasives ILLEGALLY, that is in spite of there being laws and enforcement officers that are there to prevent this (just like illegal drugs). you can't stop them, case after case has shown that where there is a market for something, people will get their hands on it.

now that we all agree that it can't be stopped no matter how many laws and enforcement officers are there to stop it (if you need more proof that i'm wright, here's some: PEOPLE GET RAPED AND MURDERED EVERY DAY AND IT'S ILLEGAL BUT IT STILL HAPPENS), we may as well let responsible people legally keep them after they have proved themselves capable of housing them long term and paying a tax via PERMIT FEES AND APPLICATION! now the government can gather more revenue to stop the spread of the invasives, people can keep the pets they want and law breakers will still get punished if caught without a permit, EVERYBODY IS HAPPY NOW!!!!!!!!!! someone that goes through the expense and trouble of obtaining a permit for an animal is way less likely to release their pet in the wild.

try thinking before criticizing next time.

If your advocating permits and liscensing fees you should have stated that instead of the kneejerk reaction that all laws are bad, and doomed to failure, that seemed to be your attitude on the previous posts. Most laws are trying to protect the public (much like laws against rape and murder), just because it still happens dosent mean we shouldnt have those laws. I think MN rebel was thinking about alot of very important things when he posted .....were you?
