do you want to buy an entire new system? speaker and all? personally for receivers i like Yamaha. Just bought a new one myself. i am only using hdmi hookups.

yes, speakers and all. I have one of those simulated surround sound systems that only use 2 front speakers, but it is crap. Any specific yamaha? I like the onkyo davey linked me to. Opinions on that one?

Bose are great but the bass blows. Powered subs aren't acccurate without spending stupid amounts of $. Solution........Find yourself a nice pair of 500 watt plate amps (or a cheap Carver) and jump onto the decware site and get yourself some housewrecker plans and 2 pair of the dayton series 2 subs. Build a pair of housewreckers with 2 subs in each........ You will have rediculous lows capable of clearing off your coffee table, and the bose will provide everything else cleanly provided you feed them with a clean reciever. This route will probobly cost you less on the sub end then buying all the Bose you'll need for a surround system and outperform subs that cost well over double.

Get Onkyo. that is the only brand worth owning. Bose speakers.

I have an Onkyo 747 I bought 10 years ago. still works great, and isn't obsolete. of course, I paid 900 for it in '98, and you could get something comparable for 300 now. but none of its features are obsolete. Onkyo makes the best quality amplifiers on the market, and their surround sound technology is cutting edge.

Bose speakers, nothing else needs to be said. I have two 701s for the front stereo, and five of the little sattelites and two subwoofer modules for surround.

onkyo and bose. anything else, and you'll regret it.

or get that onkyo system the other guy linked you to. he knows what he's talking about onkyo is the best. their amps are so great, their speakers have to be pretty good also. you can never go wrong buying speakers designed specifically for the amp in question, too.

just be sure to go with a modular component system. that way if one piece breaks or becomes obsolete, only it needs to be replaced or fixed, rather than the entire system.

onkyo is good, but not the only good one. Denon, HK, Yamaha, and Marantz all make fantastic systems.

IMO, the best speaker that you can get is Bowers and Wilkins. They're incredible.

or, All highs, no lows, must be bose:)

man, that's what I paid just for my 5.1 surround reciever 10 years ago... I don't even wanna get into what I paid for all the speakers.

I'd definitely go with this system. it doesn't come with a DVD/BluRay player. I'd go with Onkyo for that also.

or here's a link to onkyo's website. here's all their surround systems.

you can browse their site for a DVD or BluRay player also.

I don't know, my Bose 701s, with 2 8" woofers facing eachother in each box does pretty well on the bottom end. bugs the hell out of the neighbors anyway. Bowers and Wilkins, exponentially more expensive than bose. if all you're looking for is bass, cerwin vega is the way to go. if you want a great surround system, with good base (and affordable) bose satelites with a cerwin sub.

onkyo isn't the only name, but it has served me well. Harmon/Kardon is another good one. It just seems to me that Onkyo is usually the most innovative when it comes to surround sound and amp technology.

Cerwin subs sound like mud. Sounded great when I was 15 years old....... But eventually you here something that sounds good (clean). I had a housewrecker with 2 12s runnig off a $200 Carver amp and it embarrased a Definitive 15" powered sub that cost $800. The Housewrecker with a Carver amp was $350 after it was all said and done. Not only one of the loudest subs I have ever heard but more importantly it was accurate. Do yourself a favor and head over to decware and read up..... Especially if you have a love for audio and you're into do-it -yourself stuff.

I didn't even mention what I have. I went with MB Quart and I'm very satisfied.

Bang & Olufsen FTW

Never had one through. They did sound great at the showroom.

Bose has served me well for the past few years. You can't go wrong with them.
