In all my years of keeping fish I have never seen a case of Duck Lips before and searching gives poor results.
I have a Gold Severum that has what must be Duck Lips, extended mouth, clamped shut and developing red nose nostrils with a very distinct white on the extended portion of lips.
Not eating and not even sure if it can open its mouth. I have been out of town for several weeks on and off so I cannot say when this occurred or how long it has been this way. Nitrates are good but a water change is due tomorrow anyhow so I am going to do it today instead if time permits. Fish is not withering away yet, but I am sure that wont take long if it cant eat.

1) Is this a contagious condition?

2) What do I treat with after I do my 50% water change? Anti-Biotics Salt Temp Spike?

Thanks for the help in advance.

OK, here is what I did since I got ZIP / ZERO / NADA for a response. I moved the Severum to a 20 Gal tank, dosed with Metro+, salt and dropped the temp to 78. Time will tell if this method is successful. I will update if it survives or dies, whichever way it goes. That way next time some one needs Duck Lips advise the can search for it.

my very first fh had developed this.
Didn't eat for three months as symptoms got worse.
I felt bad for it so I discarded it in a trash bag.
Sorry bro.

Well this is the third day and I must say he is looking pretty sorry. I think I am going to hit him with the hammer to off him, he is REALLY Jacked Up now. Temp steady at 76, doubled the salt up my wife said it looks like his lips are going to fall off. I'm not sure about that but he is looking pitiful and needs put down.

Wow sorry bro but I think the hammer(though sounds mean) may be the best option

50% water change and salt daily bump the temp up to 85. my fh had this and thats what I did now its gone.
