Swine Flu

36,000 people die every year in America from "regular" flu........ I couldn't be less concerned about swine flu affecting a couple of dozen people here.

As with everything, the media offers NO PERSPECTIVE!

We have a case reported here in Harlingen, keep in mind we are right on the border.

The speed at which this is spreading is shocking. Luckily the treatments are working. (not to sound afraid)
 
It's not just the media imo. The WHO (World Health Organization) who have been preaching/promoting pandemic ever since the SARS outbreak need to be told to get their fingers off the friggin' panic button. It's already been established that the same virus being found in a few cases in Canada is not producing the same level of illness as what is being found in Mexico itself with the very same strain of virus.

I've known several people who have come back from Mexico with mystery viruses, some of which were really nasty. There was no call for a pandemic then. They went to the hospital, got treated and recovered just fine.

The media involvement in regards to getting people stirred up (and my comments about the regular flu were to offer perspective).

As I noted earlier, drunk driving deaths, type II diabetes, and smoking account for shocking numbers of AVOIDABLE deaths every year, but the media barely covers them (watch for it).

Statistically speaking, swine flu practically doesn't even exist. You could multiply the deaths so far from swine flu by about 100 and get just one years worth of drunk driving deaths.

Hell, more people have been killed in Mexico from drug cartel violence so far this year than swine flu.

I fully understand your point. This is spreading fast, and at least note worthy. I care about the world, not just myself. I guess I should have started by saying I have personal friends who are Mexican, and they have family that is affected....Not to mention Mexico city had a big earthquake today....I am worried more for them than anyone else, because as pointed out, it is way more serious there.

But what is you get an illegal immigrant who comes over, that is smoking, drunk, has diabetes, and the swine flu.

He could be a real threat to our health here, oh yeah I forgot, he is also part of Los Zetas.............a real threat right?
