ok.....at least i know where this is all going. go ahead and call me nuts, i'm just informed is all, i'm not freakin out i live so far away from all you suckers i could care less what happens to the rest of the US......enjoy the sunny weather!!!!

Swine, and almost all farm animals, are given antibiotics regardless of whether they need them or not, and just like in people, viruses can become resistant to the antibiotics if exposed to them for extended periods of time. The new pig flu doesn't come from undercooked meat. It is a flu that can jump between different species, namely pigs and humans. So pig farmers in Mexico who are exposed to it help spread it around because they, unlike the pigs, aren't constantly pent up and "quarantined". They leave the farm and go to markets and make contact with tourists, even if they do it indirectly. Eventually it was gonna cross international borders: pathogens don't recognize political boundaries.
Just exercise common sense. Don't go around licking other people's coffee mugs or make out with every other random stranger you meet, and you'll be fine. If it makes you feel better, periodically use hand sanitizer, especially after making contact with people or foreign objects (clothes at the department stores, oranges at the supermarket, pens at the bank, etc). Don't go crazy, though. There's no point of living in fear.

LOL you cant get it from eating pork, its a respiratory disease, its spread human to human. It is just a strain the developed in pigs and jumped to humans. Its just like the flu you get can get any year, just a unusual strain. they are just worried it will mutate. the flu kills thousands every year.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but you can't get it from eating (cooked) pork!

simple fact is its flu strain that can kill us, its airborne and not in your pork sausages, as its airborne there naff all you can do about it. if your gonna get it then your gonna get it if its around your area and short of sitting a decon chamber in full bio-hazard gear then your at risk. as with all flu strains you can die, it just so happens that this strain is particularly virulent and means even young and healthy people are a little more at risk. death rates go down the better your health care system is which means us brits are knackered as we got the NHS in all its glory.
but then again your at risk from getting run over by a bus, getting struck by lightening, catching bubonic plague (yes its still around) or digging up anthrax spores when you do the gardening. but you dont go crazy by worrying about them do you?!
