Switched from prime to safe- dead fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Carp..... you are not helping your friends position, quite the opposite. No one cares how many PhD's he has, the very foundation of his argument is incorrect. ChlorAm-X and Seachem water conditioner formulas are not one in the same, and the reactions that he stated do not take place with Seachem products. Anyone that has been using these products for any length of time knows this.

Allow me to add one final note. With my local tap water treated @ 2ppm. an 8.8 lb container of Seachem Safe treats over 526,000 gallons of tap water. where 10 lb's of ChlorAm-X treats less than 75,000 gallons.

Those numbers are based on the manufacturers dosage rates. Hmmmmm.
Same formulas? LOL

The bisulfite that Doc keeps referring to is correct, but that is for ChlorAm-X, which is comprised of Sodium Hydroxymethanesulfonate, also known as Sodium Formaldehyde BISULFITE. I posted an old MSDS previously that showed that, the folks at ARG have never hidden that fact. The Seachem formula has never been posted as far as I know, so while the parent chemicals may be similar, they are not the same, they do not react the same, and they obviously do not function the same with chlorine and ammonia by the manufacturers own dosage rates for each products.
That should be rather obvious now, it takes SEVERAL times the amount of ChlorAm-X, as it does Safe, to treat the exact same volume of water, containing the exact same level of disinfectant. Which is precisely why I switched to Seachem Safe several years ago. More bang for the buck!

Only an idiot with no experience with these water conditioners would argue this further.

Ok this is getting old, please u guys, agree to disagree, and no more name calling!(it's cheap)

Yeah, like that's a big help. You say that you wouldn't read all of this Ehh, yet here you are posting, again, and again, and again. All of it off topic. Did you ever stop and think that maybe some people on MFK might actually be interested in some of this? This isn't about winning or losing, doh! I don't know who is worse, you or Carp. The maturity level seems about the same.

Happy Fishkeeping everyone, I'll go back to my cave now.

Hello; I find the information useful. I find the bickering entertaining but of little value.
While I cannot attest to the effects of Prime and Safe from long term personal experience, it does seem that many who posted have used it with good results.
I have followed this thread from the start and now have some confidence that the OP's issue is not from the normal use of Safe.
-By normal meaning the correct dose and that the Safe itself is not in some way degraded or bad.
-Is there is any mechanism by which Safe can go bad in the bottle?
- By the OP's posts it does not seem there has been a serious overdose or under dose??
- Those that use the Safe have not found fault the OP's described technique of using it??

If we have not driven the OP away from his/her own thread, then the mystery of the dead fish at a WC remains. At some point the OP will do another WC and I hope all will go well and will not have any more dead fish from a WC.

If I were a lurker then I wouldn't read all this. But I'm active member here. I read all this because I'm here all the time.
You make good points rd. And I trust your opinion over anyone's in here. But sometimes you take it a little far. I know we've got into it before but I'm not like carp haha. I don't know if he is a 13 year old or trolling the hell out of the site but I think im a little better than him.

In spite of that crazy comparison, I still like when you come out of your cave.
