Hi there, I've researched alot on MFK, (even when I should have been studying for university midterms:nilly:) lol, anyways...

I'm kind of getting tired of the gravel "look" with my tank, and have been looking for a good type of sand. I want a nice natural color, no black. I've narrowed it down to Pool Filter Sand.

I've read about a million posts, and everybody seems to love Pool filter sand. Play sand has been about 50/50.

I'm just wondering,"Has anyone had a NEGITIVE experience with pool filter sand? Is there something you didn't like about it? Did it irritate your rays? What was it"

The first picture with the driftwood on the left side of the tank, is what the tank looked like before I attained it.

The next pictures of what my substate looks like.

Does anyone think I should scratch the whole idea and stay with gravel?

Sorry about lack of good quality pictures, my camera was stolen :(

More pictures. This gives you an idea on the style of driftwood, plants, and rocks I have.. Good picture of substrate as well. I cant believe I actually found some not to bad pictures.

Sorry...can't help you about pool filter sand, but I was thinking of getting that myself for my 50g tank. Nice collection of fish you got there. I haven't heard anything negative about it either.

Thats actually pretty nice gravel. I cant answer the pool filter sand question w/rays, but I can add to playsand in general. I run it in my 90, its fine now, but its very dirty initially, and its easily worth the few extra bucks to get pool filter sand instead, looks nicer too and what i plan on the 220. If you decide on sand, might want to higher the intakes a little, otherwise it can be a filter killer.

i have used pool filter sand and love it
the only thing i don't like about it is it takes forever to rinse out its very dirty when you first buy it
but does'nt bother the rays and looks nice and natural

How much does pool filter sand go for and where do you get it?

Wait pool filter sand was probabbly the easiest thing I have ever cleaned out before.

Have you ever tried cleaning a planted tank substrate? Its like trying to clean dirt.

I think pool filter is fine. Gr8karma uses it for his. I asked this question a while back. I will find the thread for you.
