At Petsmart yesterday I saw what they labeled a "Zebra Syno" for $20.00. The tag said it was a "Syno. multipunctatus/Syno. decorus Hybrid". It didn't look striped like a Zebra though, it was spotted and very cool looking. Looked like a multipunctatus to my limited-knowlege eyes.
Is this a common hybrid catfish? I didn't want to buy it until I found out more about it. The label did say they get big (12"-18").
Anyone heard of them? (I wasn't sure if I should put this under Catfish or Hybrids).

If I make the 30 min trip back there today I'm going to buy him lol! Then you'd get a good picture :-) I just looked up both species on Planetcatfish and one of them gets around 6" and the other around 10". At least Petsmart erred on the side of caution this time by saying they get 12"-18". I've got room for him....my water's naturally hard.....thinkin'....

Basslover, I didn't do much thinking either. This guy was just begging to be bought lol
Pounder, is this what they looked like where you're at? I'm really liking this catfish. After quarrantine I think I'll put him in a 75 gal with my Chocolate Cichlid. I thought her and my Green Terror would be able to live together, but no go. So each is going to have to have their own tank. Sigh.
He's a cool looking catfish though, isn't he?? What do you think he looks most like? (He's 2" long now).
PS The little guy needs some groceries!

yeah those are the big thing here in colorado. Those and the Ocellifer/Eupterus hybrid that they've been selling as longirostris. But dont expect 12-18" probably 6-8 would be my guess. Since neither of the parents reach 12" themselves

It would be like taking a pictus and a blochi and getting a TSN length, just not gonna happen.

Im with bass, i dont often think anymore until after i left the store and then its usually "dang i had enough for that other one too."

rofl! I know! When he netted this one out I noticed there were 2 others in there. On the way home I'm thinking, "Crap, I could've just quarrantined all 3 together!" I saw on PlanetCatfish they don't get huge so I'm glad about that. It's probably good I only got one anyway since they tend not to care much for each other (from what I've read). They had some s. longirostris also. But I remember looking them up before and they got way too big, so I didn't get one of those. I do have 2 tiny Eupterus I got 2 wks ago at WalMart (of all places), only about an inch long. I really like them.

Those cats are cool!!!!!!

Great with Oscars, too ;-) Much less of a bio-load and a lot better cleaner-uppers and normally around 7". Just need to make sure the Oscar can't get it in his mouth.
