synspila X parrot spawn!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The number of cichlid combos are more than combination lock combos.. combination locks use only 3 numbers to unlock too and the combinations are countless..
Agreed, totally different combos of fish can produce almost the same exact type of end result, I've seen proof of it too many times right here on this forum.

Largest normal bodied male at approximately 4 inches. Note the high glitter on the otherwise normal syn coloration.

Interesting looking parrots.

...that last ones color & pearls are starting to look a little familiar, maybe a little like a low grade srd?
Note the very (unfaded) red parrots in the second pic, way more red coverage (plus it's a much deeper shade) than a regular syn...I just traded off a pair of males from this spawn that had an even more intense scarlet color than this, one had good color suffusion for roughly 1/2 it's body length and tons of pearls, perhaps as many as the parrot in the first pic. The other had far fewer pearls, but nearly 80% of it's body was suffused with a deep rich plum red. In my opinion, it seems like parrots have some srd in their family tree. It would make sense to breed for a fish that had a very red base before they even faded if you were a "blood red" parrot fish breeder.

Thanks Zion...love the avatar pic btw, classic.
I should also add that these fry are approximately 6 months old now. And I currently have one of the female parrot types with her pure bred "belize" syn uncle, a male from this spawn will carry 75%+ synspila blood, I'm absolutely certain they will be fertile.
I will also be keeping at least two males from the current spawn for test breeding, if a miracle happens & I guessed right about parrot genetics, they'll be fertile. If they are it will save me further time/effort & one will be bred back to mom...if they aren't I'll have the 75%+ batch to fall back on. Things are going SO much faster than I'd planned. I've been told several times that a project like mine is to be considered a very longterm thing, Syn's generally take soooo long to mature, I was told not to expect a second generation until something like the 2nd-3rd year...

Cool... my male is a year old now and a good 9". When I first seen your thread I was shocked because your male looks younger than my male. You should get fertile males from the project when breeding the female to the uncle. I can't wait to see the outcome :)

I've always wondered why my syn seemed so small to you...not that it upset me, just gave me cause to wonder...
That particular male was a good 7inches when he sired this spawn. Just 2 inches less than your male is now. I personally don't see that as such a significant size difference, especially considering your male probably wasn't 9 inches 6 months ago? It's sort of a moot point anyway, I sold that male as part of a purebred pair. I do still have two pure syn males, siblings to the father of the fry.

This ones my favorite, he's 8+ inches & head starting to pop slightly...take note of exactly how tall bodied & thick this fish is, 8 inches long and probably darn near four inches belly to back. One of the uncles (pictured here with the mother) to the fry from this thread...

...although it's a brother to the one pictured, the other male hasn't always been mine & I fear it's been heavily stunted. I don't have a pic of him yet, Id like to pump him up for awhile before I show him off...
He may never reach even average size for a male syn, I hope I'm not too late, but he's awful small for his age.

Man those look lot like my own BP (actually KKP) x Syn offspring. I had such a mix of fish from them. Some like big beefy Syns and some like syn coloured parrots (with everything in between). Look in the hybrid example thread for Syn x Parrot for the older ones.

Here are the parents.

This was my fave, the only one that faded (and took a long time to) that I kept. She was a real beaut and I wish I had bred from her (crappy phone pic doesn't do it justice).

Great looking fish btw!
