When I saw the pictures of Woody Sun's tank, my first thought was, "OMG, a literal tempest in a teapot!" Of course, that expression refers to a small event that has been exaggerated out of proportion, but, in this context, I was thinking of the big waves of current created by those three large fish in that relatively small tank.

Touche, touche

Fugapuff, I can understand what it is your saying with the reasoning you are using.

In alot of cases, you are absolutely right. For example when people in these forums get flamed for providing a Jag with a 75 gallon tank or there are 4 fish over 10 inches in a 100 gallon, or whatever. Any of the examples alot of individuals get flamed for on this forum.

But, in no way do I think this tank with these three fish can be justified. You using the seasonal changes in the Amazon to justify this tank to me is unexceptable. Yes, animals do face many hardships in their natural enviroment. That is nature, it is harsh and many times unforgiving. But, in this particular example, I do not feel that the individual who owns these fish can honestly feel he/she/they are providing these fish with a quality living enviroment. The RTC cannot properly turn, the head on the RTC does look to be slightly deformed, is that a direct cause of space limitation, I don't know, could have been that way from birth, but to rule out the space would be an oversite.

As far as what you stated about a human being in a 600 square foot apt. If you think about it, 600 sq ft is still more living space then this and for that matter, would you be happy in that size space for all of your life. This space being a place you could not venture out of. To top it off, you are in that space for the rest of your life and your 6'8, 400 pounds and you have two others in there of that same size, forever, this is not temperary like a holding cell, even prisoners get to go to the yard. No matter if it was clean, you were well feed and there was alot of air flow, I doubt you would enjoy this much. Could you live there, yes, would you like it, well I can't speak for you, but I would not.

Ever wonder why aggression dies down in larger tanks, think it has to do with space? Hummm, I do. But i'm not an importer, so maybe it's me who has to reevaluate the situation.

For what it's worth, you make many valid points in your arguments, and I would be on your side in this battle most of the time, but in THIS particular situation, I think you are way off base.

Thanks for reading. Like I said, I'm not going to be the first to throw a stone, is all I'm saying. Those fish, most definitely in a tank too small. Most people do not have the means to keep pacus and redtail cats, but they are some of the most popular fish in the hobby, both bred by the millions now in the Asian countries. See, its not what the fish enjoys, its what we enjoy, that's why we keep fish in the first place, honestly. With a few have in mind to understand their habitat and keep the specie alive, but the hobby is made possible largely by business people who sell fish to amuse people.

Us, humans are flawed in everyway, just depends on who's eyes you're seeing it through. Our hobby is driven by business people who sell fish to make profit, people buy color dyed parrot fish to amuse themselves, or lock tigers and elephants up and make them jump hoops and do tricks. People who breed these fish in 3rd-4th world countries make pennies on a lot of fish, a couple dollars a day, breeding these fish for our enjoyment. Why do we worry so much about a fish in a tank not being happy when we regularly slaughter them for our palat? There are people who live without food and clothes, dying of hunger, more important things in life to worry about. Its all a matter of perspective, like Jesse said, tempest in a teapot. But I love this debate and love this board, hope I don't offend anyone. We should have a fish meet, debate!

Agreed. The fish industry is just that, an industry. Which as we all know are based on profit margins.

For what it's worth, I'm not offended in the least. I enjoy a little, intelligent debate. Humans are flawed. Just like an individual can justify purchasing the rarest of species to contain for themselves because it is the "IT" fish. Does it make that fish more enjoyable, more of a "pet" or more valuable, after all a life is a life right?

I had alot more to say, but this may get to deep for most and it's in the photo thread of all places. Nice chatting.

Since humans are measured in height, and the fish in length, it's more like living in a square 600 foot apt with 5 ft ceiling.

Just follow the golden rule, ask yourself would you want to be that fish in that environment, under that care, and be content.

No, probably not, definitely not be happy. But there are kids in Nigeria that roam the streets, smoking drugs just to suppress their hunger. Not only in Africa, but India, former USSR, Phillipines...

Im a big fan of monster fish packed tanks, but this is ridiculous !

IMO, a crowded tank is okay as long as the tank is big enough for the fish to swim a reasonable amount of distance without bumping its nose against the walls.

Is this the equivalent of a 4" goldfish in a 1/4 gallon jar?

For example, heres the pic I posted from few months ago when I got bashed for having a small tank... the funny thing is more people got offended by my picture than the amount of people here by this picture.

I mean, my tank is packed, but all the fish have room to turn around (the width is at least 1.5-2X the length of the largest fish)

:screwy: w....t....f are you talking about man.... you've lost the plot!

There are so many points that you've made in this thread that are just infuriatingly invalid and irrelevant.

I'll tell you what mate, when you've got it in your head that your examples are valid... your one stubborn mofo! ;)
