I found this pic in the Buy and Sell section.

I would like to hear opinions as to the correct species.

I know what I think it is but I would have to touch it to be sure :)

What do you guys think?

You gave it away?

We already had this Discussion/Argument.. FRP didn't appreciate the discussion particularly..

my bad didnt know lol where is the thread?

Why would he get upset, I would think he would want to know the real species of the ray he is selling.

whats your call on this one Miles?

the problem was alex was selling it as a true scobina while other members kept on arguing it wasn't. i'm not even sure how it all ended

wouldnt the seller want to know the correct species of the ray he was selling? How can you get upset with people for telling the truth?

anyway,, does anyone have any guesses? and what led you to your guess? or maybe tell why it isnt a scobina.

I just found the old thread. What do you know, DavidW and myseld agree on something. :) Good info in that post and sharp eye there David. The humerosa from belem look different from other countries, I could tell from looking at it that the ray came from belem and than when I read the thread it was verified.

Cool fish but not a scobina. A scobina at that size should have multiple rows of tail spikes just like a leopoldi not a single row or a few oddly scattered rows. plus a simple tell tale sign are the brown marks/ smudges behind the eyes and over the gills scobina do not have this mark.

I have no clue personaly.. after looking at the bazillions of brown ray pics..

Some might call it Scobina, or a variant of.. depends on location.

Your hint tells me that it could be Orbignyi, or something else.. Humerosa?

Okay so P. Humerosa - "Belem"..

What would you call the ray I posted? :D

Note the spikes going up the back.. I hear this is a trait of P. Constellata

I would call the ray you posted an ugly brown POS lol

constella has actual thorn like spikes on the main disc from what I remember that ray is young and does not. I have seen a large male peru flower ray with actual thorny tubercles on the main disc.

What country is the ray from in your pic? Humerosa occur in alot of places and their appearance varies a great deal. It can be a Humerosa but its hard to tell from just a pic. sometimes you have to see the ray in person and an experienced eye can see the traits that dictate what species it is.
