Don't know where that one was from.. a book calls it Dumerrelli.. but it looks an awful lot like some of the brown P. "Peru" I brought in a while back..

how big is the ray you posted.. from the look of it appears to be young but i notice tiles in the backround. are they lil 3/4 inch tiles or larger?

The tiles were from the book/photoshop. It looks like a very young ray.. Probably 6" or less.

I don't speak chinese or I would be able to tell you..

they syonymized it with this ray..

I have owned the ray in your last pic (i have pics somewhere) I dont remember 100 percent if the skin was smooth or not but I seem to remember it being smooth. the other ray you posted has obvious rough skin. I wouldnt trust that book of urs 100 percent. alot of these brown rays will give you a headache if you try to id them using the resources available to us. I personally dont think alot of the old literature was correct. Like most fish the whole lot of rays needs to be looked at with DNA testing to see what species are actually valid. I believe alot of the names to be synominous.

I bought mine as a full grown retic for $100

I agree.. and I don't trust this book at all. it has a bunch of mis-ID's it seems, but I enjoy researching the rays they have pictured that are not very abundant in the trade.

thanks for your feedback Jon, don't be a stranger. PS save it as a JPG instead of a BMP?

I had was lucky enough to purchase two scobinas from Jon years ago. Once you have seen one up close, there is no mistaking them for many of these other rays.

I would say that the ray that started this thread is an orbignyi.

Colin
