Taking the Plunge; Channel Cat!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought two baby albino channel cats two weeks ago. I put them into a 55G growout. I can't find them now. There are major quantities of hiding places (PVC, rock caves etc...) in the tank though. The weekly 50% water change tonight (I remove the decorations around every eigth or so water changes) will hopefully have them turn up. If not, then I think that (by definition) the two Del. Bichirs have reached the "outgrown" mark for the tank and will be rehomed!

OMG HOLD STILL! unlikely:).

They're both still doing well. Growing fast! I'd say they're up to 3 inches now. They happily take bloodworms from tweezers. They haven't really taken to pellets yet, though.

They just had a nice big meal a few hours ago, so they were willing to hold still for some pics.

yea, I know the tank is dirty. I'm gunna pet in some algaecide 2morrow.

Any pics of the pond?

Careful with the algaecide and the cats. Some can burn their skin if not dosed properly.

Ooooh, thanks for the heads-up.

Here's the pond I plan on putting them in next; it may not look all that big cuz it's alittle overgrown, but it's about 200 gallons. after that, they'll probably go into a 400 gallon that we plan on connecting to this one.
And, if my dad falls in love with them, he might let me put them in his 8x8x4 biological filter:nilly:.

Congrats soon they will look like mine in my avatar. 30" in that pic

Cool channels. i am planning to buy a 4" channel next week to grow out with my bass, not an albino tho.

Thanks all! pardon the wierd post, but I'm not sure how to reply to more than one question.

I got mine at the House of Tropics in Maryland.

Oh, that's a channel? It's beautiful! I hope mine turn out as nice as yours.

Yeah, I like how the normal channels look when they're young, but I'm not so hot on the jet black coloration they get at adulthood. best of luck!

Sorry for the delay, junior year's been tough:irked:.

Anyway, I did have the channel cats in with my large tropicals, but I ran into a problem.

The monster pictured below nipped off most of their fins:(! He may not look like much in the photo, but he's topping 8" long and, like all RDSs, he LOVES to nip fins.

So, the two little cats are enjoying some much needed R&R in a sick tank, until they grow alittle more and will be able to hold their own.
