Taking the Plunge; Channel Cat!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the support, guys:)!

They're still doing well. They're eating salmon pellets every day. They don't seem to be growing a whole lot, though:confused:. I think it might have something to do with the water temp. I plan on putting a heater in soon.

They're extremely fun to watch!

Long overdue update.
The littel guys are still doing well. I'm still feeding them the salmon pellets, which they gobble up on a daily basis. I had a small problem with single cell algea, so the tank is kinda cloudy (thus no pics). I just measured the littel guys and they're exactly 3.5". That's about 20% longer than the last time I measured them.

Fingers crossed!

When I had channel cats (just shortly ago) they seemed to grow rather slow but if you put a heater in it and have it between 75 and 78 then they grow rather quickly, mine put on about 5" in 3 months. I was feeding it hikari floating cichlid pellets and supplementing with night crawlers however.

Update:
Still having trouble with single cell angea, but frequent water changes seem to have it under control.

Here are some TERRIBLE pictures of the little guys. I'm faily certain I'm the worst fish photographer ever, but i digress.
They're still pretty wary of the camera, but I was able to get some decent full body shots. They're also developing their own personalities, thus is decided to affectionately name them Lockjaw and Hammerhead.

They're yellow is really starting to bloom as spring rolls in.

Nice cats, dude!

Sorry I havent updated in a while.
The little guys are now every bit of 6". Lockjaw is slightly bigger than Hammerhead, and is now starting to lose his transparent, pink coloration, ang gain his adult cream-yellow pigmentation.

A few day ago, I put them in my newly finished 3 level pond system. I put them in the biggest pond; about 200 gallons. Hopefully this will serve as a nice grow-out habitat. They're both still very nervous and hide alot. I havent seen them eat yet.
I'll add pics soon.

The middle pond is the one where I have them.
The cat in the pic is Hammerhead. Lockjaw is hiding under one of the potted plants and doesn't like to share his hiding spots.

That Pond System is extremely awesome & so are the fish ;)

Sadly there are no Channel Cats here in Germany!

Your pond system looks pretty sweet. I moved mine into my 55 Gallon and he has grown since my last post. He's about 6" now and eats Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets.

I don't have any recent pictures of him on my computer yet, maybe I'll take some later.
