The fish also swim couterclockwise or clockwise in an aquarium hugging the outside tank margins. If it is going counterclockwise and jumps toward the center then the right eye is damaged. If it is going clockwise the left eye is damaged. They have to jump toward the center because they can't jump to the outside margins. Simple :)
 
I said I'd post some more wild aro pics. Sorry it took so long. I'm just linking them below instead of embedding them in the thread since they're a little big, but I wanted to keep them big so you guys can see the detail. No DE that I've seen. The footage seems to be at a few different locations, and probably a sample of 30 different fish. That's a guess though. It could be the same group of about 10 aros. They swim in packs apparently. Oh, and the last pic is a gigas with what looks like 1000 babies. Do they have that many young? It's neat, the babies swim with the mother in a huge school, and feed.

Does anyone here who feeds live crickets have DE? I wonder if it is the lack of upward use and diet that causes it and crickets seem to solve both problems.... anyone who feeds live crickets here?

Lots of us do!! but most of us don't feed them primarily just crickets...
