taking things in a different direction with drop eyes newest theory.

I always fed crickets and floating pellets, avoided feeders, it was the bottom of the tank where my 3rd Aro got d.e., the others never did get it.

I read MOST of this article and all I can add are my own experiences. First all 3 silvers I kept got dropeye in different eyes and one got it in both. I never recall them hitting the lid harder than my currant black aro has. My black aro is a solid 21" now and has really nailed the lids on a few occasions, and he is drop eye free. This in my opinion has somthing genetic to do with silver aros. I know people say blacks get it to but i haven't seen one yet.

Silvers seem to get it more then any other aro but all bony-tongues can get it...

I don't think anyone has ever seen a Black with DE. They are not prone to it..

all I know is blacks are just as prone to jumping as silvers and you don't see near enough of them with drop eye to substatiate it being injury related. they are also the most closely related aros so structurally they are the same. Also on a side note I have had 1 silver that never jumped(at least that I saw) and never showed injury from jumping and he got dropeye in the left eye.

I've seen asian's and silvers with DE, thou i have read that all bony tongues can do... bad genetics and bumps to the head could possibly explain it... silvers are the most widely kept aro, cud explain why we see more silvers with DE.

So, drop-eye seems mostly happen to silvers. I have had 3 silvers, and if you feed them floating food and limit the movement of object below the tank level, drop eye hasn't appeared in those fish. I have an 18" Jardini now, and have never seen a Jar w/ DE. any thoughts on this?
