I guess I just had to explain myself better, due to being in water wood will break down, it is also very porous, some kinds expand some are WATER LOGGED, OR ROTTED. It should be solid if its going to with stand years in aquariums.

So took one peiceout while it was soaking, and a part of it was soft spongy and crumbly. Is this what you were talking about?

Thanks ya its great to be able to get them for free hope to get better and more this weekend hopefully wanna get the heavier ones like Vet said, right now only one feels super heavy

Nice finds! I found a lot of nice peices and even some plants while walking along the rio grande. Though I only managed to bring back 3 small pieces and a water bottle filled with a couple species of aquatic plant because of how dense the vegetation is along the river.
Boiling them for a few hours removes most of the tannins and helps them sink.
