Tall tanks or Long Tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like tall and long and wide. Taller tanks definitely have more challenges, though.....more costly, harder to access, especially accessing the floor for tank. With planning, though, all obstacles and challenges can be overcome :)

Much prefer long + wide. Tall is a pain in the butt, more glass to clean algae from and deeper for water changes. Also, fish utilize length and width much more, height doesn't give territory. Except for angelfish and discus, tall tank is pretty much pointless.

I have tall and wide tanks and wide is much better for cleaning and really for fish keeping in general. Most fish desire to swim back and forth rather than up and down. My only saving grace on my tall tank is that I am 6'2" and have really long arms. If I didn't moving substrate, rocks, bubbelers, and cleaning the bottom of the tank would be impossible. And as it is I have to either wear a sleeveless shirt or get my shirt sleeves wet to reach.

I like wide/long tanks
you can hold more fish in them and they are better looking. :)

I go for the widest possible. I have two tanks, both 75. One is 4' and the other 5'. The 5' is better all around. Now I have a 6'. Better yet. My larger barbs love to swim. So the more length, the better fun they have.

Well it is long, tall, and wide, sure, because it's just a huge tank in general. "tall" tanks are usually where the height is the greatest dimension. I think that's what OP was referring to.
Wish I could have a 15x4x4
