So the time has come, I want to switch up my 220. It is currently a strictly hap tank but I am getting the itch to do some tangs. I would love to have a tank that is mostly smaller fish (lelupi, brichardi , ect). Anyways I would love some input from you Tang gurus as to what type and how many I can safely stock in my 220. For the record I have never had tangs before. The tank is a standard perfecto 220 with cornerflows. I have caribsea arag as substrate and tons of rocks. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

If it were me I would skip over the brichardi, they can be a real pain sometimes. If you dont want big then rule out frontosa. Maybe some Cyprichromis would be nice, they are wonderful in large numbers and are schooling fish. With a tank that large you could do a lot of things, throw in some callipertus shellies. Some julies would be nice, either some marlieris or some dickfeldi midnights would look wonderful. Look at the sand sifters as well they are very interesting fish that many people overlook. If you liked you could do a large colony of duboisi - that is always a eye pleaser. Look at the Altolamprologus fish because thats a crowd favorite as well. Read up on some of the fish I have listed and mix accordingly make sure you dont mix predator and prey...can make a nasty mess of things.

if you wanna do brichardi's id go with a group of some "firetip kiku's" :headbang2
im tellin you! its a sight to see! and i suggest you dont put anything else in there unless you wanna see a ***kill bill music kicks in*** tanganyikan death squad!

+1 Mine have now been pulled outa my 46.....little devils!

Thanks for the knowledge, I like the idea of the shell dwellers. Can someone possibly name some really colorful tangs that I could possibly use. My neighbor has some orange lelupi and they are stunning. I am getting more into the smaller fish in the larger tank because the effect it makes, to me anyway, is awesome.
Thanks again for the replies. I just want to plan this out real good before I jump into it.

wheres mike d? hes a tang pro and could also give some great input here!

what about some calvus ? I dont keep them so im not sure on tankmates in a community tank.

i would suggest tropheus as well but think they are species only, have to ask someone who has them, tropheus can be verycolorful .

I have to also caution on the brichardi taking over a tank. THey do look super cool in a species only tank. very beautiful. I solved the problem in tanks with tankmates by simply having only one per tank lol. worked good and i still got to have my brichardi. he would love all your rockwork. One is usually not too aggressive at all. Mine were not anyway, had 3 tanks that way, two front tanks and one mbuna tank. they got along well with the mbuna too. Never nipped or bothered fronts either.

here I am, getting yard work done... The master called. Now that she is gone to a shower.

I would suggest as said above a school of these

Then lelepui, some julies, sand shifters are great. I must get some for my new setup.

Then any of these, but not as color as mbuna but have great personality

I love these guys. I am waiting on some my self

Then get comps/calvus. I have tons and I could not imagine a tang tank without them.

So we all agree then, Some cyps, lelepui, julies, shellies, sandsifters, and some alto comp/calvus. I see mike reccomended something else although I have no clue what they are...lol
