Escargot shells work great but they do break down in water over time. A good rule of thumb with shellies is to put 2 shells per fish in the tank so they always are able to pick their own. That and to keep them in a colony if you can. A tank that is shallow and wide works better than tall and long. Their territories aren't that big and they don't usually cause any damage when they spar. For some reason, I forgot how many I actually have. I have 13, not 10.

Well it's a twenty gallon long and I was thinking of 6 brichardi and like 14-16 shells would that be good?with black sand?
