torquay, devon, !!ENGLAND!!
hi i was just wandering whether these fish could be kept together:
cyathopharynx furcifer or foae,
frontosa mpimbwi
cyprichromis leptosoma or paracyprichromis
enatopius melanogenys,
eretmodus cyanosticus,
synodontus petricola,
and 3 calvus white(already have)

i don't no how many of each type i am getting as i am buying from a wholesaler so i will probably have quite a few, but plan on keeping:
3-4m and 9-10f furcifers
2m 8-9f frontosa
4m 16f leptosoma
3-4m 7-8f enatopius
2m 4-5f eretmodus
10unsexed synodontus

is what i would prefer to keep but i probably wont.
my tank is a 150gal 96" x 18" x 20"
but i also have a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft that i will set up ones the frontosa get to big that is about 130-140gal, and if i really need to then i can create a centralised sytem that will have around 400gal in it. so i have plrenty of room.

so can i keep these fish together, because im not sure if furcifer and enatopius can be kept together i can have one in my 8ft and one in my 6ft.

thanks matt

fronts wat cyprichromis leptosoma in the wild... may have a few go missing. Fronts are not great with mixing with other fish as a group... comps/calvus work okay with them, but even then I have heard them turn and eat them..

o yer i no in the wild the fronts basically live of eating the cyps but the fronts are only going to be young and as soon as they get to big to stay in the tank the cyps will be moved. but i was wandering really what was better fully grown to go with frontosa enatiopus melanogenys(sand sifter) or cyathopharynx furcifer/foae.

both build sand nests so thats what really attracted me to them but also they both get to i think 6-8" at most so should be ok with the frontosa?

the enatiopus melanogenys you can keep with cyps. You could have a combo of middle top swimmers and sand nesters (probably not a word, but you know what I mean). I haven't seen fronts being kept with xenos generally. So I am not sure how its going to work out if you try it. I understand your fascination for melanogenys their nest is sort of like a sumo ring.

no they harrassed the smaller fronts, until two 5-6 inchers jumped the tank. A kipili and a burundi... They are super agressive to them, and then when the fronts get bigger they attack back...

I cant add too much to what has all ready been said because i dont keep the other species of fish , just frontosa. I do have 3 haps in with mine though (2 sand sifting and a red empress pair) the thing i noticed in my young adult haps is that they are generally all right with the frontosa but every couple weeks when they spawn they get highly aggressive with the frontosa, i dont work outside the house so i am able to keep an eye on them and remove them if i have to. If your not around all the time then you could come home from work and find a very expensive frontosa all tore up etc... Frontosa do best by themselves.
