tanganyikan set-up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well what i think im going to do is make a centralised system first with about 400gallons in it, then keep frontosa in a tank by them selves and have all the other in the 8ft and put any young i find in my 4fts

yer i no, like the 400 gall is split up by 6 30 gal tanks 3 15gals and a 150 gal which is near enough 400 gals.

what i think i will do is set up the centralised system and keep the cyps, furcifers, enatiopus and others in my 8ft to grow to breeding size and then put the young in the 4fts to grow.

im also now hopefully getting tropeus moorii moliro red(really nice red),tropheus duboisi and calvus white, so the tropheus will get a 4ft to themselves each and the calvus will probably go in the 8ft with the other tangs.
as for the frontosa i think i will be putting them in a 400l tank to grow in and then but them into a bigger tank as soon as they need one.

I have kept or am keeping almost all of these fish so I will pipe my 2 cents worth. Number one I would not mix featherfins with much especially foai, you will find that most featherfins are very skittish and tempermental fish that are best off being kept alone, the same goes with frontosa but they are much more hearty than most featherfins. My rule of thumb is to never mix cyps with frontosa, you are just begging for disaster. Enatopius melanogenys, whichever morph or collection point you pick would be best kept with cyps or jumbo cyps only, I currently keep my sp. kilesa with some callochromis and that is it, you will also find that enatopius require massive amounts of room and they do not like rock work that the frontosa do. I would also have to say that a 150 gallon tank would be far to small for all of those fish. I feel that you have far to many conflicts that would cause problems. The furcifer like to build barrows, that in turn would be torn up by the frontosa and enatopius. Your fronts will like rocks as will the cyps and calvus, but the other fish prefer open bottom tanks, OR tanks with lots of open room. IMO when you get into the more exotic tangs it is best they are kept in species only tanks, but thats my two cents, hope it helps.

rite this is my plan rite im going to put all of my tanks on a centralised system which will amount to about 400gal so plenty of water, i have 6 4fts 3 2fts 1 5ft and my 8ft set up but i also have another 10 or so 4fts and a 6ft aswell.
so plenty of room what i was thinking of doing was to have in the 8ft the cyathopharynx furcifer and cyprichromis leptosoma.
in one of the 4fts i will have the eretmodus and calvus(i am also going to put a pair of neochromis omnicaeralius kuene is. and a few peacefull malawi's in aswel as the two other types will just stay in amongst the rocks)
in another i will i will have the enatiopus by themself
then i will give the two type of tropheus a 4ft each.
i will then set up my 6ft if i can and put the frontosa and synodontus in there.the synodontus will come out once the frontosa start to breed.
if i cannot setup the 6ft i will split the frontosa between two 4fts depending on how many and how big the fish are that i get.

does anyone see anything wrong with this?
also does anyone have any additional info on eretmodus as i have never kept them before?

thanks matt

rite just had an email from the friend of the wholesaler and hes got the prices of some of the fish: 10 x frontosa=5.95 sterling pound and 25xcyatho.furcifer=5.95 aswel
thats all the info iv got so far so don't no if thats whole box but im presuming thats the least amount that u can get

o rite only thing is diet as calvus are mainly predators whereas tropheus are definatly not predators, the other thing i thought of doing was to keep the calvus and eretmodus together in a rocky tank and then to put neochromis and some other malawi's in as i wanted to keep my neochromis and i thought that it would go best in there
