Tanganyikan tank, Is it Possible????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a Tang tank but most of mine are still really small. So far it has worked though. I have some whit calvus and C. brichardi and they get along great. I use to have some leleupi but they ended up being too aggressive so I removed them. I also have a Tanganyikan eel that does great in this set up. For the true Tang experience I suggest one :)
As for the tropheus I can attest to their aggression. I have a lone male(given to me) in with my mbuna and he rules that tank. He's way more aggressive than my mbuna.

I got you, but what I am curious of is if the shell dwellers will work with rock dwellers and free swimmers all in the same tank. A eel would definitely be cool but, I doubt that would work with shellies lol.
hmm im def going to have to keep a close eye on my troph, any sign of aggression and hes out, thanks.
Right now my 2 Triglachromis otostigma's are running the tank, I dont know much about them or there temporment ( Bought them on impulse, I usually research all fish before buying) it also could be because they are the biggest fish in the tank at the moment.

Those mastacembalus elipsifer which is what he has only gets to around 15-18 inches depending on the specimen. It has a small mouth I dont think it would bother anything over an inch from everything I have read. Ask Blue2fyre he is one of the only people I know who actually has one because they are all wildcaught. I will be soon adding one to my Calvus, Frontosa, Julidocrhomis, leleupi and petricola 125.

AHHHhhhhh looks like ive got some research to do lol

Yup elipsifers have tiny mouths. I've seen them in shellie set ups and they don't seem to bother shellies. I have baby endlers in with mine but he doesn't touch them. He prefers the food I give him. I guess it's just easier lol. If one swam right in front of him he might grab it but I doubt an eel would go out of it's way to eat shellies.

Ok so, took everyones advice and traded in the troph. The 2 ocellatus took over the few shells in the middle. They are soo cool to watch, moving sand around dipping in and out of the shells. the 3 Brevis stick together but havent shown any interest in the shells. I've ordered about 15 more shells, they should be here on friday.

No pics today, just got home, good reason tho. I finally talked my friend into getting another tank (craigslist is a great thing) so right after work we drove out and picked it up, and spent the rest of the night cleaning and setting everything up. All good my shells are comming tomorrow anyways so pics will come after I throw them in.

I've had some problems hith little shellies getting gobbled up some of the smaller species i'll keep in a smaller tank with less aggressive fish I have some lepidolamprolongus hecquis that spawn alot and the fry grow really fast and there a bit bigger then the standered shellie I have some one inchers if your intrested
