out of my mind eh?

I agree with 6 foot being the best situation... but that doesn't mean 4 foot isn't big enough. If 6 foot is required please dont' tell that to my adult groups in 4 foot tanks !

He wants to put furcifers and cyps together. How is a cyp that aggressive? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. DOn't tell that to my breeding furcifers either... !

It is actually PROVEN that they breed better in a 6ft tank, check with the best breeders and importers and ask what they keep theirs in, a 4ft 90 gallon or a 4ft 120 gallon would be sufficient long term for a colony of 20-25 fish but a smaller tank is not, 12 is not a good enough size colony, that is the BARE minimum to spread the agression.

I believe he said better in a 6ft, and the deeper 4fts would be sufficient, meaning it could work but not the best.

In a perfect world I would have a small lake to put all my tangs in.

He has extra tank space and can use it if he gets in trouble.

In all honestly the tropheus groups i have in 4 foot tanks ( 75 and under mind you ) are probably happier than the one in my 6 footer. 12 to 25 in them and breed every month like clock work. It is my belief they actually do better when a bit crowded and less spread out.

The only real issues I can see coming up are the calvus. I have seen this work with tropheus but wouldn't try it myself. Make sure the calvus are quite large if you do try this and have a net ready incase it doesn't work.

The furcifers do better in largish groups as well... and need 6 feet. He is giving them 8 :) I agree 25 is pushing it... but he stated he wants to weed the extra males out.

Gobies with tropheus are fantastic.

Sand sifters are fine in 4 footers.... unless you are trying kilesa. Even then I have seen people pull it off in 4 footers.

I don't like putting fish in the smallest tank required either. But he has room to move with the 2 extra tanks.

yer the only reason im getting so many furcifers is because that is the only amount that i can get, i will eventually try and have 3-4 males and about 10 females, the rest i will sell on.

Blatch, another option for you is to put some of the calvus in with the furcifers or sand sifters if you get into trouble. They are fine togther and won't bother each other. Just put a few rocks in the corner for them.

Obviosly Longstocking is going to keep giving bad advice, I think we have sufficiently warned that this is not a good Idea. ANY feather fin other than ventralis is best kept it species only tanks, SOMETIMES you can add cyps to bring out behavior in the featherfins. He is also saying he is going to use 55 and in a prior post said he would put the Tropheus in something smaller than that. B A D I D E A. Nothing less than 75 unless you are using it for growout. There was also talks of lake mixing which is generally a VERY bad idea, especially with some of the tangs he is planning on keeping. Some of the fish do not share the same dietary requirements or space requirements which is a bad mix right off the bat. I will not sit by and see adivce given that is not in the best interest of a fish. With that being said take whatever advice you want, The conventional SAFE advice, or the advice that works on a situation to situation basis.

One thing I have learned over the years is there are many ways to do things. Try new things out and to always keep coming up with new ideas. No one way is right... but it's always a good idea to have a back-up plan.

I am done.

alrite then, but the system will have about 550gallons in it which i though would be sufficient for them, with most of the species i will weed out extra males in the groups that is another reason im getting alot is because i then almost garunte at least a few females.

I dont think anyone is saying that 550gals is not suffcient they are talking about the tank sizes that make up the 550gals and the fish going into the specific tank sizes.

Take what advice was given to you into consideration, but also do a lot of research because the diets on these fish vary, the sizes they reach and attitude also vary - just keep that in mind.
