Based on the pictures, i think its bacterial bloom. Should clear in a few days on its own. I just recently had one of those pesky events on one of my tanks. I had to rinse all my filter's media (not thoroughly tho). It pretty much cleared up on its own afterwards

what causes this? and is it harmful to my fish? should I clean my canisters? I just cleaned them a week and a half ago.

Not really harmful. But these bacterial blooms eat a lot of oxygen. But seems like your tank is properly aerated anyway. Did you remove anything? I noticed that my recent bacterial bloom started when i removed all the amazon swords in my tank. Water suddenly got clouded just after i did water change. I think it would subside after 2-3 days. In my case, i just got paranoid, and added a little ammo-lock from api. I thought it was an ammonia spike at first. Dont worry man, just wait it out. Tiny water changes may help. The system will stabilize in time
