TANK ALL CLEAN!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been battling brown algae. I have to scrub the tank often. it was covered in it as I was unable to clean it for a week. so I scrubbed the whole tank down with an algae brush (even scratched my glass a bit which im quite pissed about) pulled out all the wood since it was coated with the brown algae and wiped it down. im pretty sure now that is what caused this. but the algae is unsightly and I would love to get rid of it.

Probably yeah. Must have shocked the system. When you scrubbed the driftwoods, it must have killed some of the good bacteria or something. Yep, bacterial bloom is annoying. Just wait it out tho, it will be gone soon

As for the brown algae..well, you cant really put in siamese algae eaters in there, your stock will probably just eat them. I use these amazing guys in my gulper tank. Great algae busters. One good option is to get a flagtail. Hehe will get the job done

algae eating fish is the only way to fix the problem?? my other tanks don't have this issue....

Im sure there are meds that help control agae. But i guess the best option is good ol elbow grease hehe. I usually just wipe that stuff off glass and other stuff. Of course algae eating fish and shrimps help a lot. Havent tried the meds tho. But ive seen some stores that sell filter medias that help control algae too.

so my tank is still green and cloudy .... very hard to see through it. have I waited long enough? its very unsightly..... I cut down the light to 0-1 hour a day. cut down the feedings - every day and half or so. all the fish seem to be normal (the ones I can see atleast LOL) haven't lost any of them.... I was going to go to the LFS and get live plants to see if that helps but my tank has no substrate. please help. I just want my clear water back.

hope you have a 300g for that silver. Tank looks great!

Not really harmful. But these bacterial blooms eat a lot of oxygen. But seems like your tank is properly aerated anyway. Did you remove anything? I noticed that my recent bacterial bloom started when i removed all the amazon swords in my tank. Water suddenly got clouded just after i did water change. I think it would subside after 2-3 days. In my case, i just got paranoid, and added a little ammo-lock from api. I thought it was an ammonia spike at first. Dont worry man, just wait it out. Tiny water changes may help. The system will stabilize in time
that's bacterial bloom, tank not cycled or not enough filtration. water test prob show high ammonia. water change every other day, fin level, and dose with prime for size of tank not water replacing untill tank cycles up and ammonia and nitrite comes up 0. and have nitrates.

you killen your fish, sniff a bottle of ammonia, this what they breathing.

Tests 0, 0, 20-40
