I am wondering who I could call to over look my house/ floor; would I call my insurance broker or would it be a structural engineer? Basicly I want to be covered in case of damage, 100% coverd. I respect everyones opinion but because there is such a contrast in views I need a professional, with credentials I can validate, to over look my conditions. If I can't get a guarantee then the tank will be setup in the basement :(

Thanks for the feed back :)

call a good construction company one that does free est's to check the structure for any kind of mods or termite damage and if he says there a problem ask him to prove it get it in writing and call someone else to make sure also dont forget a floor thats not totaly even or flat can cause havic on a tanks seams right now i have a 90g where the corners sunk down a 1/1/2" because of uneven concrete under the carpert i had to add a center support to my stand and that sunk into the base i can see the corner of the tank where the silcon is streched any further and is going to split at the very least check the floor yourself with a 4 foot llevel and make sure theres no huge dips.

i built houses for awhile and all floor joist were either engineered lumber or 2x12s every town/city has there own codes to be smart snd if it were me i would not put anything over a 90 gallon on a second floor and would put it on a atleast 36 inch wide piece of plywood to spread the load out better almost any size tank is a heavy static load on joists even next to a load bearing wall only 1 side of that is on the load bearing side

ok update.
LOL I cant let this thread die!

I now decided to make a little platform out of 3/4ply and 5- 2x4's. I will then cover the platform with matching carpet and it should look pretty cool.

The tank will be up against 1 bearing wall with another bearing wall about 5' away. I think now I should have no worries about the floor supporting my 100gallon tank on the 2nd floor. :headbang2
