tank boss needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agreed with the "wait for the EBJD to grow" folks, though I think a big severum or chocolate would work well. I worry about the amps and viejas mentioned eating those swordtails or raising other sorts of hell.

I'll probably hold off till the greater chicago cichlid association swap meet in november that way everyone is a little bigger and if I go with something that's toward the high end of aggression for my current stock the newcomer will find his slot at the bottom and hope he doesn't have the ambition to work his way up the ladder. I agree with the amps, the vieja will probably push it with aggression but swords usually don't last but a year so if I have to wait till spring so that the swords should be dying of about the time a new fish will find them to be food, I may try and wait. I take very good care of my tanks so I'm always paranoid to sell a fish if I don't know the new owner. As for right now I'm just trying to figure out all the options since I don't want something too common.

^^this guys is crazy don't get any of them.... How about a few earth eaters? Or a cichlasoma ornatus if you're willing to spend the money.... And ebs can get sick and die at any time so I wouldn't make one ur centerpiece

Chocolates are some of the most peaceful cichlids you can have even when spawning. I don't know what reputation you're talking about or who said anything negative about their temperament, but they are absolutely wrong.

Festae, jaguar, or midas DO NOT belong in that tank and would wreak havoc.

Have you considered something other than a cichlid as your centerpiece?

i would say severum uaru, or if you want a big one, but it might pick on your other fish, psittacus
also i dont think a nic belongs in that tank

I'm well aware about the festae, midas, and jag. As for the chocolates, I talked with a few local breeders who have been keeping fish for many years and they said that despite their peaceful reputation the only fish that they have been able to keep chocolates with are large aggressive ca. The ornatus is a good looking fish so I'll have to do some googling on those since I know nothing about them. If their is a non-cichlid option I'm all ears.

What's wrong with the nic, they have are reportedly as peaceful as any other cichlid being suggested.
