See, having a EBJD rules out most of the SA/CA species. Ive noticed Vieja and Para will back off easily when confronted with aggression, but when they are not taken seriously they will pester other fish. Chocolates can be the same way.

The most likely canditate is a severum or uaru. Then eventually you will have 2 nice show fish without the aggression.
Dwarf's are also another route. Rams, apistos, dwarf pike, rainbows, kribs. Nic's might be ok.
Personaly, Id get a gold/red sev.

RED SHOULDERED SEV, KING KONG PARROT, or more GEO's (maybe JURUPARI's)

I like uaru but hesitant due to needing more than one uaru, might have scrap the whole big guy idea and get a pair of sajica and some lemon tetras

I have a cholcolate and its my favorite fish he doesn bother anyone just wants to be the dominant fish unless you start him small they change colors its just a neat fish one of my favorites

didnt you guys read he has a EBJD? that would be a nice centerpiece in my opinion.

Love me some jurapari, I just lost my 4 year old jurapari which opened up the space I'm trying to fill. I like steinies but read that males will kill other males and wasn't sure if that would carry over to my tapajos

Yeah, but the EBJD is the same size as the nic. And will most likely not pass the nic.

Seems like he's wanting another large fish to assume dominance that will not harm other inhabitants. In that case, if nothig else is added and the EBJD turns out to be a passive one, the nic will assume domincance and I don't think he wants and already aggressive fish to command the whole tank, as the nic will most likely get worse.

Good points Cecropia, I've never had a nic before and she's still young so it sounds like the nic and ebjd should be my centerpieces and I hould focus on filler fish ie swords and tetras
