Tank cloudy, strange

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, adding the salt helps with nitrite burning which is going to be the next step in the cycling process. Keep up with the water changes until you leave and then have someone triple dose with prime every day if they can't do water changes.

Here's the 2pm update:
I found Bio Spira locally for $14.99 (30 gal size) so i'll buy those after work.
I'll test the ammonia again and do another water change. My question is, Should I do another water change AFTER adding the Bio Spira? Will a water change actually remove the nitrifing bacteria I am trying to add to the tank?
I'm old school on this and could use the help!
I added sea salt last night (food quality) and will score some aquarim salt tonight as well. I raised the temp to 78 but as previously noted, perhaps 80 is better (For the Severums with ICH).

I understand how Bio Spira works but am not familar with Prime. Please explain.

Prime is like ammo lock, it detoxifies ammonia and nitrite for 24 hours. If you add the biospira, I think you will be fine. Just check right before you go. The bacteria in there should be enough to handled everything.

So you're saying once I add the Bio Spira, I shouldn't have to do another water change because the ammonia will be gone (As a result of the tank cycling from the Bio Spira)?

Yes:thumbsup:

10:00pm update:

Ammonia-0
:D
Well, prior to doing the 50% change this evening the ammonia dropped to .50. Tank is even a little clearer so things seem to be progressing.
I added 2- 30g bio Spira (I reconize that smell:D ) and upped the temp to 80 degrees.
Everyone looks good though the Severums are not acting like Severums; they are stressing a little bit but I can't blame 'em. I won't jinx myself with any predictions but feel pretty good....I said I wasn't gonna jinx myself.

I added the Bio Spira directly to the filter (Fluval 303, basket side) and added some more bio filtration (Ceramic Fluval brand) but didn't rinse any of the old filter material. I also added aquarium salt.

I'll continue to keep you posted and thanks again for all of the advice.

Need to let that bad boy sit before you start stocking it, sucks but you gotta do it.

Yeah, I got cocky. I should have let the first 6 fish ride for several weeks before even thinking of adding more fish.

Excellent work, nice improvement on the ammonia level, now let's see if the bio spira can do it's job. Good work and keep on top of testing those water params.

Mostlycichlids I'm in Thornton on the North side of Denver. I work kinda near you though at the Henderson Mine.
