A lot of my tanks are second hand old tanks. The oldest are 50+ years old (including slate bottoms!) None of the small tanks leak (resealed around 15 - 20yrs ago I believe).
All of the older larger ones have leaked and had to be resealed apart from one 6' which is on origonal silicon and ~25+ years old and the silicon still looks like new! I'm getting wary of it though so may well reseal it soon....
As to insurance, I was told by my insurance company that my standard house insurance would cover damage from an aquarium splitting (different places may be different though).

Unless it comes to getting in the cage against someone who is a better brazilian jiu jitsu tactician then you need to listen to your trainer
