Tank crash?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The ph like I said is 7.2 but they are juvumiles and I heard hard water is good for them the temp is 84 no co2 been setup for about 5 months I clean the filter every month 24 watt 50/50 10,000k there is also a moon light

A planted standarded 30 gal 36" tank should have about 2 watts per gallon min ~60 watts. The 50/50 is good for the plants and the Discus. A Ph of 7.2 is what it is as long as it's consistant it will be fine. The hardness concerns me and will definatly stress the Discus long term. These are soft water Amazons that come from slow moving blackwater. I will assume you have a tank raised domestic strain far removed from the wild type. However whoever told you hard water was ok was mistaken., and please do not add salt! NO SALT! That will harden the water and stress the fish. Loaches and corys also can not handel salt. Change 50% of your water and let it sit for a week. Let me know how you make out. Don't add any "stuff" other than NovAqua and Some StressZyme at the water change.

Discus are sensitive to tiny amounts of ammonia correct?

Good, try the water change and then leave them alone for a week.

I don't know how everyone missed that. :screwy: The MFK Brain Trust must be circling the drain. :( Anyway, your tap water killed them. Buy a chlorine test kit and test your water before adding it to the tank. You MUST treat it with chlorine neutralizer before pouring it in.

If you are on well water, have the water tested for hydrogen sulfide.

Also, do some research on discus husbandry. Their needed care is a different direction from what you are giving them.

...also, just to be fair to everyone, until you graduate you really should mention in your signature that you aren't a real marine biologist.
