K, so I haven't been keeping fish for nearly long enough to develop some pet peeves on fish 'keeping'. But fish research has caused so many sleepless nights. Often I forget that a light post can put some website that says a 'y' fish needs 'x' gallons.
I've checked out on oscars and its like... wow, Such varied opinions. I mean really, fish are like people. Some do well in a smaller living space, others need tonnes of area to grow. (No matter which way though the bigger/more space is more then often better although 3 oscars in a 1000 gallon might be a bit roomy it sure beats them in a 10
) I guess what I'm getting at is my pet peeves is when you look at a tonne of websites day in day out read actual published books but one person finds the single exception and goes off on you about how dumb you are. Essentially people that shoot first ask questions later. (like 'you need 200 gallons per oscar you're overstocking your 125 gallon with 3 oscars) WTF I know they get to 10-18inches big I know I am moving out in approximately 1 - 2 years and getting a 1000+ gallon aquarium. I am not a hobo chasing down a ham sandwich I've read this stuff. I can not see how at this point and time 3 fish that are smaller then my fruit cup need 600 gallons to be happy! You know what would make those fish happy. FOOD AND LOVE!!!
*deep breathes*
Being told that 'you don't need your tank to cycle before you put your oscars (or any other fish in it for that matter) in it they can tolerate it no problem'. Sure, I imagine I can breathe in ammonia too. Its the not dying after thats tricky. [Ack, death... my only weakness]
I also agree with other peoples posts on getting mad at overstocking. It sucks seeing fish not given what they want. Its hard to hide bad pet care with fish. Like will you notice if I take my dog for a 5k jog or a 10k jog? :O but with fish you can be like... yeah i'm sorry you can't keep a blue whale in your bathtub it will need a bigger tank... like the ocean.
But yes ignorance usually is the kicker on pet peeves. The more harm those people cause to fish, the more angry people get. Also the more harm they cause to other fish keepers.
I lurve this website. Its been a great asset and luckily it appears to have a large vacancy of people that possess the qualities to peeve off most people.
