tank mate for flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well in my case i got a little experiment going on , i have a 210gl tank with 3 FH 4" each ,4 midas the same size , 1 frontosa ,2 Jack D 2" each, 6 GT 2" too, and a couple of africans (1 Ahli 2 demanosi) and so far ,they are growing in there with little fights , just a couple of Oscars i had to remove because they were being abused by a Mean Demanosi

they have been together for 2 month now

my FH are starting to get very nice colors , i just have a lot of trouble getting good pictures with my cheap Casio Exilim , if someone knows how to get pictures with it let me know.

I have come to realize (maybe i'm wrong ) but for these monsters to coexist in the same tank you need a lot of room for them to run ,hide .

Ive tried..only have one female FH now and she gets to live by herself..anything that goes in there...bad...during the day it may be ok, but its like she knows that once the lights are off shes in charge. Safe to say nothing has ever made it thru the night with her, so now her only friend is a little fake fish that bobs around and gets attacked. Funny how even tho it is plastic she will continue to bite an test it...funny fish

well, so far so good. I *almost* bought a BP last night, then decided not to. Instead, I got 2 clown loaches and 2 piscus catfish. THey are all fairly small, and damn those loaches can move. She checked them out and that was it. She'll chase them around for fun, her playmates will unknowingly be right up against her mouth, but she doesn't try to take them out. Just ignores them then.

as for uploading a pic....I haven't been able to get a good one of her yet...will try in a bit

As for the pikes, though...I had a snakehead I think it was yrs ago. It only ate feeders, which I'm not too keen on doing, and it was highly aggressive. Plus, don't they get very big?

Not all Pikes are nasty. Not all Pikes get huge. Depends on which one you get and with a FH..... No Pike can or will hurt it.

So,

My pretty girl spectrum has grown and matured. Yes, I still have her altho I will admit I came close in the last couple months of disowning her. She's been liiving in exile in a much too small tank after she repeatedly took chunks out of my 25"+ catfish. I thought I could reintroduce her to the main big tank after awhile. Was wrong. Almost dead wrong. She's an agressive bugger, yet so majestic and tame...and personable....

I've been in the hunt for the last couple weeks of finding a cheap bigger tank for her, and the room for it....She is MINE. Mine for life, whether SHE likes it or not :hearts:

I'm still thinking of trying her back in the big tank this weekend. It's been a couple weeks. I tried "darter" fish for her. 5 tiger barbs (1 left, moved in the "grow out" tank), and 6 tinfoil barbs (5 left, catfish snack). WEll, the tinfoils are growing. Just maybe I could make this work

Any ideas on how to make a divider for a 265g?? Might have to come down to that...

blood parrots seem to get along swimmingly with fh's

I thought about it,decide not too. This is the same FH that put the insides ~ out of the twice as big oscar (who did survive).

Tonight I put in her tank some dummy plastic kid toys...one of winnie the pooh, the other of a plastic shark. DId so for her to take her frustration out on as she had been doing plant rearranging. Quite interesting to watch...
