tank mate suggestions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How about butterfly fish? They hang around on top and aggression is never an issue.

Is anyone reading what I write with all those fish he is overstocked-especially with the Pleco!! Why do you guys keep on recommending more fish-will someone please help me!!??

I am one of the gar people and I'll stand by what I said, a florida gar will be fine in a 75 gallon for a while. But not in that tank with the pleco.

That is why people like Polypterus get so frustrated cause of silly advice like yours. He is not asking for "awhile" but permanent!!!

lol as in a while I mean years not a month or two. You'll be lucky to see more than a handfull of captive raised Florida gar grow past 18" in a home aquarium no matter what size tank it is which is why a 75G will do just fine. And unless you know Polypterus I wouldn't try speaking for him. save your !!!! for someone else. You've already shown you know very little about gar by this statement here:
You couldn't fit a true gar in that size tank. The smallest are Florida and they get to a min. of 2 feet in captivity.
I'll let you know again the smallest gar species are Shortnose gar @ about 30 or so inches in the wild max where wild Florida gar max out @ about 50" in the wild and not in your home aquarium. As much as we like to try we cant fully recreate true environmental conditions that are conducive to fish reaching maximum potential size.

I am simply basing my opinions on Gar based on what I've read by people like Poly and others on the Gar forum-so I guess you know more than them! Look it up it's called reading. LOL! Just grew you a knew hole!! LOL!

African Brown Knife fish are never aggressive and do not grow as large as the other knife fish. I would recommend either a blast ghost knife or clown knife. A butterfly pantadon is awesome and stays at the top. Arowannas are great. Perhaps you should get a needle fish. Not as large as a gar, but very similar and will stay around the top and get semi-large.

Shamrock I am going to have to agree with you that he is overstock. Unless you have one serious filter and want to do water changes every other day if not everyday i would suggest not getting anymore fish. Those clown loachs can grow 8 to 12 inches. A common pleco can grow very large. I know it might look empty now but think about the long run, unless you are planning on getting a bigger tank I would not get anything else just watch them grow.

OP please post a pic or tell us the L type of pleco you have so people stop assuming you have a monster pleco, it will make this discussion go a little better.

Are you serious? Why don't you go and flame somewhere else on some 3rd rate forum and not here. And please enlighten me and everyone whs taken my "wrong advise" and post some links to people who have Florida gar that are over 18" or where Richard or Solomon have stated that Florida gar are the smallest gar and get to at least 24" in the home aquarium.
