I have recently rescued a 12" Black Ghost Knifefish (Apteronotus albifrons) from a 25 Gallon tank who's other inhabitants were more than enough to vastly overcrowd the aquarium by themselves. Unfortunately, I am only able to put it in a 30 Gallon tank at the moment (but at least, he doesn't have to put up with the extreme overcrowding that existed in the previous owner's tank).
I am considering a 72" x 24" x 18"H aquarium as his new home, with hopes that the beast will some day reach it's full potential of 19 to 20". I'm looking for ideas as to other species that would be suitable as tank mates. I am wondering if there are any small to medium sized cichlids that might work. Does anybody know what species it would co-habitate with in the wild?
Thanks, as always.
