Tank Mates for Elongatus Piranha?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
actually i put three exodons in my elong tank about 5 days ago. 1's tail got chopped up the first day but somehow survived. I see it chase em all the time but they are a bit too fast for him/her. Let's see how long will it last tho.:headbang2

Piranha cohabs are experiments and it really varys by fish. I think you could keep one with pygos. theres a vid somewhere of that combo

uh.. no to the guy above me.. dont keep them with pygos.

I keep a lot of my p's with shrimp. they are cheap so if they picked off not a big deal, and I like the look of a lot of shrimp crawling around on the bottom of the tank.

what if i put some redbelly piranhas or pacu with him will that work hes only 3in. big i have him in an 75gallon tank. i have him eating cocktail shrimp do u still think he will go after live food?

it's in every piranha's DNA to go after live. Also if you put some rbps in the tank depends on the size you'll either have dead elong or dead rbps. same with pacu, it does have teeth and powerful jaws. if they are big enough and there is a chance that it might chew on the elong if it can get it's jaws around it.

If you provide a lot of hiding spots that the elong cannot get into then you can try with some fast swimming tankmates. from my experience if those tank mates are in the tank before piranahs, they tend to have more chance for surviving a little longer as they know where all the hideouts are.
so far convicts are the only ones that are working for me.
