Tank mates for goldies?

First, try to get a lid. A homemade top made from latheing and nylon bug screen will do.
Second, due to the restrictions on imported fish there is rooland maybe you should go for some natives.
How anout FW tonguesole 25cm (Cynoglossus heterolepis)
or FW tailed sole (Aseraggodes klunzingeri)
or any of the perchlets or galaxias, as well as the many fine FW gobies there?
You could enen look into getting one of the dwarf species of eel-tailed catfish.
Oh, by the way, dojos are also called weather loaches as they go nuts when the barometer falls.

I think I had the only one that ignored that. Didn't matter what the weather was, he never noticed, lol.
 
Well...they're pretty common, but try cloud minnows. or just google coldwater fish species, especially orientals. Maybe you could get a small koi (if you can find one lol)?

All koi have the potential to grow to 3-4ft long.

1. goldfish community, maybe a few corydoras to eat and bits and pieces the goldfish don't get
2. use it to grow out a BGK
3. Make an axolotl tank, from what I've read a 4 footer can house 6-8 axolotls, and they'd be an interesting stocking
4. make it a terrarium with some sort of ground dwelling critter, my hermit crabs'd love it, I have a class 3 reptile licence, so can keep pretty much whatever I want
5. Keep some mud crabs, those guys are always cool.

I wouldn't advise keeping corys in a goldfish community, corys cannot thrive off scavenging alone in tanks (they need their diet suplimented with food specially designed for bottom dwelling fish like corys), they are also very sensitive to water quality and need a very clean tank to thrive well, feeding off a dirty substrate can give them bacterial mouth infections. A sand substrate is best for these fish, as it allows them to perform their natural feeding behavior (they cannot do this on a gravel substrate, plus rough gravel can damage the corys barbels/whiskers).

If your tank has leftover food which the goldfish don't eat, this is a sign you are over-feeding the goldfish and also a good reason not to get the corys, as the substrate needs to be very clean to keep these fish properly- goldfish will also eat any fish which they can catch which fit into their mouths, corys would fall under this catagory.
