First off I know there are a bunch of threads of tank mates recently but I shall ask again!

I have a 60G tank with four Sens and one rope fish and only when the rope fish is hungry I don't have any mid or top swimmers in my tank and it's becoming a little plain.. So I was wondering if there's any type of fish that either stays small or grows slow since I do plan on upgrading my tank but sadly not soon.

Thanks,
Justin

More ropefish! When you have a group they never stop swimming.
Where I do plan on getting him a buddy I want to get something not related to a bichir.

Other oddballs!

I have Dats and a Flagtail with my bichirs. I would love to add a gar but theyre illegal here in CA.

you can generally do something like a gourami or two maybe a ctenopoma

Gouramis can give lots of colour and are fairly active.
My petstore does have quite the selection of Gouramis I was wondering about a small Arowana?
Any idea of the growth rate on these guys? Maybe something more exotic! Something with teeth!

I looked into getting a Florida gar but their growth rate seems to be way to fast for me.

I'd say no on the arowana unless you are planning on upgrading rather quickly.......I believe the consensus is 150g for a single arowana. I'd do the Ctenpoma(sp) also known as spotted african leaf fish. Also tiger barbs 'bout 7-9 (odd number) would go well as well. They are playful and will nip at each other in that bunch leaving your bichirs be.

My .02

Edit: Or an African Brown Knife and he Ctenpoma. Go with an African region theme.....

I did have a 4inch Ctenopoma in my 60G but when I changed substrate I forgot to pump some oxygen into his bag and shortly died...
I do have a 1incher in a 10G grow out but they like to hide since they're ambush predators.. I want something that explores the mid and top of the tank.
