So i have had several mixed cichlid tanks in the past and am familiar with the territorial behavior most of them exhibit This go around i did a little more research and found a lot of help here on MFK therefore i crated an account to ask more personalized questions. i have had my fish for about a week now and am satisfied with the behavior of everyone, so here it is.

I have a 65 gallon tank that is set up with tons of hiding space and plants. Ive added:
1 Geophagus
1 Blue Ram
1 Parrot (pinkish)
3 Coolie Loaches
1 Pleco

so my question is... I figure these will be pretty much as many fish as my tank should have to avoid any aggression, can i add a schooling fish to add some movement to the upper level of the tank?

That pleco if its a common is producing a lot of waste. Just fyi. If you have proper filtration and a good maintenance schedule i dont see why you couldnt add a school, some suggestions that ive kept with similar setup include, barbs, rainbow fish and larger tetras.

6 silver dollars or 6 smaller rainbow (like mentioned) shouldn't effect your bio load to much....I used tiger barbs as dithers for my oscar for awhile their very entertaining and look good imo. Always up to something make sure you get 6 so theyll feel comfortable and will act normal.

I will say this ive found with certain fish there is a differene between a schooling fish and a shoaling fish. For example 5 tiger barbs will not "school" as tightly or exclusively as say 9-10. So will rosy barbs and glass barbs from my experience. There are some larger tetras that will school tightly even at 3lol my latest favorite for this have been red eye tetras.

i loved the look of the rainbows they come in a lot of beautiful colors and patterns however they are on the pricier side,nd we only have 1 custom fish store in town so i will look around but i doubt ill be able to get a schoal of those. What about giant danios, they look good and fit the size im looking for, any input on those guys?

Giant danios are a good choice very actie and you will def see movement. Again the more the better. By the way if you cAn find any there are certain rainbows that cost around $2-$4 max.

just a question do you know what type of geophagus? and what type of pleco? i agree with woofy on the giant danios that light-med blue and orange would be great and it will help make it more along the biotope. but let us now what kind of fish you got between the geo and pleco. you may have issues if its a brasiliensis. they tend to grow quick and have more of a temper.

I have looked into it and the store i bought the Geo from said assorted, but im pretty sure its mot brasiliensis, it looks like what petco is calling an earth eater. as for the pleco its a smaller breed albino, i specifically wanted to stay away from the larger ones that get pretty lazy as they age.

I did end up finding some Australian Rainbows at pestmart for 2$ a piece so i got 6 and they are lively, ill see how they settle in, i just got then this evening...
