you should NEVER get a fish just for ONE perpose cause when that perpose is done what does the fish have to eat/do? so if he gets an pleco he should also get some algea disc for him to, and make sure its not a common either ( pleco )

If it's near a window, there will be constant algae growth, so the pleco/algae eater will always have something to do, and with any fish, you should feed it regular food regardless.

i have my 75 right next to 2 windows. my tank is at a slant and on one side theres 3 windows and on the other side theres 2 windows and with the curtine i still get algea KINDA but its not bad tho
Since he said it is going to be next to the window with the back and sides painted he may be able to pull it off.

Never a common, I'm an exotic pleco guy. Currently looking for scarlet since mine commited suicide last year or an Adonis.

I might give the UV a try, they seem $$$

If you find a Scarlet, and know where to get them, let me know.

I'm getting rid of my common for a Red Tail Leopard pleco, but that's because I can't find a scarlet.

Will do. Mine, for whatever reason, jumped outa the tank, was lil over 10", paid a nice penny for it. I said to myself, I'll never spend over 200$ on another fish, a year later and here I am, 100 here, 100 there. :grinno:

Wow. That guy is awesome! Reminds me of a Lion Fish.

Sir Plec, My common pleco is going to be retired to the pond during the summer and then the 1500 indoor tank in winters, providing I don't take it down, which I think I might. I really got into the koi hobby, but a few days ago, I decided I didn't want to get into it anymore. Tanks are just easier and less expensive. Plus, buying a $400 Koi is not something I want to be tempted to keep doing. I already did it once.

I really want the Red Tail Leopard Pleco, because it's the closest to resembling the Scarlet. Our LFS has a large Scarlet in their 200 gallon cichlid tank. I've been tying to buy it, but they won't budge. Same with the Frontosa's they have. haha.

A UV for a tank is not as expensive as one for a pond. I have a 50 watt UV for my 1500 tank with Koi and it ran me almost $400 I believe. If you get an algae eater or a pleco, you might not have to spend $$$ on a UV.

I don't know if a UV would help keep algae off the glass, as it only sterilizes water that goes through it. So you will need something for the glass anyways.

What is the name of the LFS that you go to,is it worth a road trip from Phila.?

Petz Unlimited in Mechanicsburg. It's the only place in my area with decent fish. But no, it's not really worth a trip.

They don't have anything out of the ordinary other than Chinese Hi Fins, and that's because if you want the price for something, they just order it in, and I am the one who wanted the prices.

It's a small pet store, and they sell puppies. :(

Their prices on some things are high, some are a few bucks cheaper than other places though.

They have a good variety of tropical fish, and cichlids. I could have bought a gold looking 4 inch Arowana for $20 yesterday. It was cute, but they get big, and they creep me out. haha.

Good if you live in this are, not really worth a road trip. Neither is That Pet Place in Lancaster unless you are into Salt water.

Okay thanks,I'll pass then.Sorry for the derail.

Well it would keep your water clear but wont help with the glass.
Rav

But it has to be in the water to find its way on the glass. UV= not in water so not on glass.
