No, I'm not defending the price of a fish and/or cost of shipping (did you happen to note the to and from addresses of this transaction before posting your no cents?)
I have not mislead or misinformed the customer in question. I am not making this post to further discuss the sized tank a pair of festae require to thrive.
I am simply here because of the repeated references you post in attempt to point cichlid hobbyists away from making purchases from my business. It's not constructive. It's annoying. It's unrelated to the topic - again.
Save all of us the drama and please email me directly.

Since I was mentioned in this I think I need to respond, even though Jeff and I sell similar fish we are good friends and he is in my eyes one of the best in the buisness. No one should hesitate from buying fish from him.

Business 101: Price=expense+profit

You pay to develop contacts across the world. You pay for the import licenses. You risk your money on international deals that can result in 100% losses at no fault of your own. You pay international shipping costs. You pay to house and raise your inventory. You pay for all advertising costs. You pass on shipping at "cost" and eat the packaging labor costs. You build a couple of decades of relationships and enjoy a superior reputation. You unhesitatingly donate to worthy causes. You are one of the only suppliers who isn't passing off "fakes". You are THE one of the two big names who's fish DON'T arrive covered in lymphocystis............

........ You charge whatever the &%$* you want and shouldn't have to apologize for it!




It's a little classless to take a shot a someone you don't know, who sells a product on which you are not fully educated, and with whom you've NEVER done business. Much more effective to vote with your wallet, not your mouth.
 
Well I just learned the hard way a 50 gallon isnt big enough for a 3" male and 4" female Festae. My female went beserk and left the male half dead doubt it will live :(
looks like Ill be keeping this fish alone
 
Tankboy, any tank will be too small for a pair of Amphilophus. As long as the large fish can track down the bigger one, there are no other distractions (i.e. targets), and the smaller fish can't escape to the other side of a divided or similar barrier you will eventually end up in carnage. A tank with just two fish, male & female of the same species, will end in disaster eventually.

The only exception would be if the reproductive cycles of the fish a exactly matched up (and that can change at any time). Many of us learned the hard way when an otherwise peaceful pair ended up in violent divorce. Sometimes that takes hours, sometimes years, but it ALWAYS happens with Amphilophus types.

So a 50 gal wasn’t large enough for a 3” & 4” Festae…

So this is another point for those of us who suggest getting their long term home from the beginning and not using a smaller grow out tank :D

It wasnt a permanent home for them was gonna see what one was better looking then sell the other and I already had a 75 for the one I was gonna keep which would have held me over til I decided if i was gonna keep or sell.
It was a bad move on my part but keep in mind not everyone plans on keepin the fish for its lifetime or has the money to plunk down on a 200 gallon tank for a 4" fish
