That sucks about your tank, but IMO a best friend would be doing more than just feeling bad about it. There is no honor is not doing the right thing.
It sounds like you live with your parents. 55 gallons on the floors could have done massive damage to their home. I assume you completely cleaned everything up. Water can lead to mold, which is a complete disaster.
I have heard of people donating blood plasma and getting up to $200/month. I believe they even five you OJ and a cookie!

I would sell a PS3 if 1. I was allowed. 2. I could get enough money. The reason I have two is because my first one was damaged by my sister attempting to put a dvd in while my game was in. She being as infinitely dumb as she is broke the drive and so now all that PS3 is good for is simulations. When I get a job I will eventually buy a new and bigger tank but for now they are fine. I am going to get a big tub today. I have never seen a tub more than like 3 feet long and a foot wide, where should I go?

Yes I do ( only 17 hence the name) and it was 80 gallons of water. My dad owns a demolition company that deals with mold and asbestos so no worries about damage. The baseboard might have to be replaced but thats about it.
