Tank size & dimentions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say 3*3*6ft

3 ft height is absolutely necessary because piranhas like to swim in different water levels..
3 ft width also absolutely necessary, this helps the shoal to turn around without hitting the walls
6 ft length, is the minimum. If you can, go for 7.

i totally wasn't even taking glass thickness into account. thanks for clearing that up, shows how much i know about building aquariums haha

I'd go for the cheaper option at 27", no way I'd shell out another few grand for a couple inches in height. The tank you listed that I mentioned is about 405 gallons, pretty big! I'd get two dozen baby RBP (inexpensive at $5 a piece rather than $50 a piece. They'll grow pretty quickly, you'll lose a few, but if you don't you can always trade some in. It's easier to start with a large group than to add new specimens to an established piranha tank. Usually the new guys get teamed up on. Growing up together definitely helps with aggression too.

That's gonna be one heck of a tank. Definitely post pictures when the new setup is running!

Yeah I've been looking at a custom tank for a few months got all my quotes. Just have to wait for a new house. I live in a condo right now and once I get my monster tank I'm not moving it! Hahah I can't stress that enough! So the plan is to have a house in spring/early summer and the. I can get my monster tank! And almost. 3grand more for that extra height no way! Haha I'll post pics

3ft tall, really? Non of mine have ever went past mid way in my tank and it's a good 20 inch. Even with deco up top to hide in and even with live foods that are up on the top level of the tank. They never go up there and take a half hour to work up the courage to go up there. 3 feet wide is alittle much don't you think since that max out at a foot, 2 is just fine. And only 7 in a tank that big, you should know that they won't be aggressive. I've had 7 in a 125 and they didn't even use half the tank and it took them some time to find their food. A tank that big could house over 20 I would say and still have room. I think your exaggerating a bit. Trying to sound pro isn't going to help him.
