I know this is a much discussed topic, but I can't make any sense of it. Officially a 48" 40B is good, but I had a common grow to 11", and outgrow a 55g. I have 2x 10s 1x 55 (in use), 1x 90, and a planned aquaponics setup, maybe 800g. I currently want wakins the way some people want asian arowana, and I know they are capable of swimming, which I like, but are they fancies that stay small? I had 6" comets too, and they were killed by finrot, so I don't know if they'd outgrow a 55 or not. What size do I need for wakins? Please don't tell me a 40B. At that rate, I might as well get an arapaima for my 55, it'll be just as happy.

Hi there,
Wakin goldfish are supposed to be ideal pond fish. They can grow up to 11 inches and maybe bigger. I'm not sure what to house them in because their supposed to be kept in ponds, all I can say is that they'll need more than a 40B. Regarding tank size some one else will help you out.
Good Luck!

I have upgraded my plans: an aquaponics system with 4 tanks in a stack, 6.5x1.5x16ft each, or 4x1200 gallon tanks. I want goldfish and Aulonchara, still not sure if I will be able to offer the heat I need for the peacocks with my compost heaters and greenhouse. Can I use the 1lb/gal for aquaponics rule or should I use the 1fish/30gal rule for goldfish? Filtration will not be an issue 4000gal sump + 200sq ft of growbed + mushrooms + algae scrubbers for emergencies. Also, what ph/kh do goldfish like?

A 10 yr old girl in the U.K. caught a gold fish weighing 5lb 4 oz, there was also a gold fish caught that was over 15 inches that was dumped in the town pond after it was won in a fair.
