I already tried to explain this to him but now he wants a sissy tank with danios and tetras so let him enjoy his planted community....

The fish doesnt have to be large to be monster. plants can be monster. Sometimes they are far more difficult to pull off than keeping large fish. its all in attitude and presentation to me. I have my monsters. I have my "sissy" tanks as well.
I get enjoyment out of all of them.

:iagree:
some people have no vision

Well if you want to talk about little danios and tetras and plants being monsters(hahahahahahaah) then your at the wrong forum. I apologize, no disrespect intended but i disagree about small fish and plants being monsters. I know people who have had planted community tanks with what i call feeders and by seeing those tanks i never got interested in the hobby because i think they are boring. It wasn't until i saw a big Trimac and Midas with a 3ft. Arowana in a 300 gallon tank that made me want to get an aquarium. No offense to those with planted community tanks with feeders but i think they are just plain boring. There is no way i could ever get any enjoyment with what you plan to stock in your 75 but a big GT in that tank would bring you years of enjoyment along with those who saw it...... :woot:

I could consider a GT a feeder.....But I wont because I agree that they are awesome fish. :D
Calling something sissy is usually taken as offensive.

Not to hijack this thread, but would certain plants (Amazon swords and grasses) be able to survive with a pair of GT's in a 75 gallon?

I think they would probably get dug up, but if they were potted you might be able to get away with it.....

Rally unless you consider a human being a fish you will never own a fish that would consider or be able to chomp down a whole 12" GT.....What a ignorant comment "GT a feeder"....Ohh and by the way nothing is more pitiful then Chuck Norris ruining his image by dressing up like a toothless hillbilly COWBOY....

hehe. a GT could be a feeder if you owned a large RTC. I've seen similarly large fish end up missing due to large cats being a bit frisky.
In any case, Jack and I just had a similar conversation in a different thread.
IF you really wanted a GT in that tank, you'd really only want to stick with one. GTs are pissy bastards and like to box now and then.
If you wanted to do something similar to what you are thinking, and were willing to do the research and maintainence to pull it offf, you could try a GT, two or three Silver Dollers (I really like silver dollars) and some hardy plants that could possibly be tossed around. However, my GTs have never messed with plants, but the rest of my cichlids all tear them up.
But, in a tank that small, it would be tough to keep a GT with any other cichlids. You'd want a GT and some smallish (not to small to get eaten) dithers.
It's doable. Not to sound belittling, but you could probably use a bit more experiance before doing a SA/CA cichlid "community" tank. It's tricky.

I have 2 male Gt's in a 75 with a parrot, dat, pictus cats, fire eel, snowflake eel and giant danios. Though I'm sure if they actually do hit 12" there could be problems. At that point I'd keep the nicer looking one and sell the other. :)
